The main challenge facing industrialised nations today is how to reinforce their competitiveness in an increasingly global economy, and how to make best use of the opportunities that present themselves in developing areas of the world.
This issue is of special relevance to the Emilia-Romagna , not only because the region is one of the biggest contributors to Italy 's earnings from exports, but also because, over recent years, the region's economy has indeed increased its level of internationalisation with great success.
To discuss the theme of internationalisation, the Emilia-Romagna Region has got together with Unioncamere Emilia-Romagna (the Association of Emilia-Romagna Chambers of Commerce), the Inter-regional Trade Exhibition Organisation and the Observatory of the Italian Trade Exhibition System to hold the Emilia-Romagna Export and Internationalisation Forum . The Forum, to be held in Bologna on the 25 th July 2007 , starting at 9.30 will be attended by Emma Bonino , Minister for International Trade.
The conference will be split into two sessions. The morning session will concentrate on the processes of internationalisation affecting manufacturing in Emilia-Romagna , and will identify what further growth is possible, without ignoring the contribution that all players in the national economic system have to make in this direction.
To boost the effectiveness of internationalisation, cooperation and joint planning must first be established between all the relevant branches of government, manufacturing associations and unions.
This is the spirit of new agreement that Emma Bonino and the Emilia-Romagna region are to sign at the end of the morning session. The agreement will ensure the full implementation of the policies that central and regional governments have identified for the next three year period.
The afternoon session will examine the Internationalisation of the Italian Trade Exhibition System and the role played by national promotions policy. The session will highlight the fundamental role that exhibitions and trade fairs play as promoters of internationalisation and domestic manufacturing.
