A high density of bank branches in the region

The regional banking system has been shown to have a large local presence with 3,603 branches in Emilia-Romagna. This is the highest figure for the northern-central area of Italy and third at the national level. In relation to the population, the region comes second in Italy with 84 branches per 100,000 inhabitants, significantly higher than the national average of 57. Branches are located in 97% of the communes, demonstrating the presence of banks relates not solely to the areas with the greatest population density but is also spread throughout the region.

The trend with respect to the previous year is positive and shows an increase in 2.7% in branches. The Banca di Credito Cooperativo (up 6.8%) and the Banca Popolare (up 5%) record the greatest growth in the region while the banks with the greatest number of branches in the region are Unicredit Banca, Banca Popolare dell’Emilia-Romagna and Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena.
