A region focusing on solar energy

A total of 4,011 photovoltaic systems have been installed in Emilia-Romagna, the second highest figure in Italy. These are the findings – as at 30 June 2009 – of a survey conducted by GSE (Gestore Servizi Elettrici). The systems installed to date generate total power of 45 MW, but the region is aiming to reach 65 MW by next year, thanks to the efforts of local authorities and businesses. In Rimini, for example, a plan has been launched to increase the use of photovoltaic systems in public buildings. Companies in the region, meanwhile, can take advantage of the national energy-efficiency incentive scheme known as “Industria 2015”, as well as of regional schemes.

The funding measures for Emilia-Romagna regarding solar energy installations are described principally in the Regional Operational Plan of the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and in the Regional Energy Plan. The region also supports the environmental protection of its territory through a programme covering the 43 ecologically equipped production sectors identified, in which over two thirds of the projects involve the installation of solar panels.
