Vislab, transport of goods from Italy to China with autonomus vehicles

For the first time in history, four vehicles powered by green energy will leave from Italy to reach Shangai after a three-months trip, with no one driving, no remote control and without consumption of traditional fuel. The electric vehicles, projected by the VisLab of the University of Parma, will bring Italian goods to China and will mark a milestone in the evolution of sustainable and safe mobility. Solar panels will furnish energy for the autonomous vehicles. The aim is to demonstrate that this technology is mature enough to be used in large scale.

Two electric vehicles will perform a 13,000 km trip, two backup vehicles will be part of the trip as well. While the first vehicle will require human interventions, although limited, to define the route and intervene in critical situations, the second vehicle will automatically follow the route defined by the preceding one, requiring no human intervention (100% autonomous); at the end of the trip, its technology will be transferred to a set of vehicles that could also be used for urban mobility.
