Position and infrastructures

Emilia-Romagna is a major junction for all infrastructural systems connecting the centre of Europe with southern Italy, northern Europe and the countries in the Adriatic and Mediterranean regions. It is a region at the centre of communication routes, connected to all major Italian cities, the main European cities and to all main world centres.

A motorway network among the most developed in Italy aids freight transport on road and is backed by a rail system that records an average volume of freight transfer on rail higher than the national average.

However, it does not stop at physical infrastructures: thanks to Lepida, the network devised by the Region, Emilia-Romagna is among the first regions in Italy for the diffusion of broadband among businesses. Over 80% of these navigate at high speed: a much higher result than in the rest of Italy (source: Istat, 2007).

Emilia-Romagna can count on over 1,100 productive centres comprising several uniform industrial areas, most of which located at less than 10 kilometres from major motorway and rail junctions. The presence and development of road, motorway and rail infrastructures, alongside constant creation and promotion of industrial and crafts areas, equipped with all services, offer optimal conditions for business facilities.
