University

Emilia-Romagna is host to the oldest University in the world, the University of Bologna, founded in 1088. Together with the other universities of Parma, Modena and Reggio Emilia, Ferrara, and their decentralised faculties in other regional cities, the region offers a comprehensive range of courses in all subjects, from humanities to the sciences.

The framework of academic supply is completed with the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Piacenza and the American universities John Hopkins and California University in Bologna. In all, the students enrolled in the four universities of Emilia-Romagna amount to over 160,000.
