For some time, Emilia-Romagna has been at the top of statistics in the European Union for regional product pro capita and also the regional added value increases more than the national average. The gross regional product per inhabitant ranks Emilia-Romagna as one of the richest regions in Europe.
The indicators of economic well-being see Emilia-Romagna among the top regions in the national lists, more specifically in third place. Four provinces of Emilia-Romagna are classified among the first eleven Italian provinces for added value pro capita (Istat, 2006).
