The mechanics industry has always played a major role in Emilia-Romagna: throughout all productive facilities in the region, it develops process and product innovations essential to specific industrial fields.
Closely tied to a tradition of craftsmanship, finding outlets in territorial productive vocations, but also the presence of great historical enterprises, the mechanics sector also draws strength from the existence in the territory of a network of technical schools, often working in close contact with businesses, which have contributed to improving skills and technological updating through the training of young technical diploma holders.
From Piacenza to Rimini, from agro-food to the motor industry, this region boasts excellence also on a worldwide level: robotics and machine tools in Piacenza, food mechanics in Parma, agricultural machinery, automotive and hydraulics in Reggio Emilia, automotive and vehicle components and electromedical equipment between Modena and Bologna, ceramics machinery in Sassuolo and Imola, automatic machinery for food packaging in Bologna and also in Modena, woodworking machinery in Carpi and Rimini, systems for food storage and the cooling chain in Romagna, construction sites in Ravenna and in the other maritime provinces.
The mechanics industry also has a significant presence in terms of employment. The sector counts for approx. 330 thousand employees, which has a far greater influence on the regional economy than in the rest of Italy.
